Consultation
In my different roles as a clinical psychologist, I have provided consultation to other professionals.
This can be case consultation about how to formulate or meet the needs of a particular individual or, more often, consultation on a service level. I have experience working in and providing consultation to schools as well as in mental health settings. A particular area of interest for me is providing strategies to support those with a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and those with developmental trauma.
The format of a consultation would typically start with finding out what the consultee would like to get from the discussion. It is helpful for the consultee to have thought about some questions to guide this prior to starting. Then the consultee would have time to give a brief case presentation with some space for follow-up questions if necessary. We can then have a reflective discussion about what might be happening, different ways of formulating and, if appropriate, some suggestions regarding intervention.
Consultation is different from supervision, as there is no formal agreement and the consultant does not have clinical responsibility for the consultee.
I am happy to provide individual or group consultation.
I am currently completing a PGCert on Transformational Leadership in Children and Young People's Mental Health, which will further develop my skills in organisational consultation and development.
